Abstract
A self-extinguishing polymethane moulding material is prepared from: (A) a polyether or polyester polyol; (B) a polyfunctional isocyanate; (C) 2-15% by wt. of (A) and (B) of a finely divided polymer having a bromine content of at least 40% by wt. selected from polyvinyl bromide or a nucleus brominated polystyrene; and (D) 0.1 to 5% of the total of (A) and (B) of phosphorus in the form of an organic P compound having at least 2 groups per molecule reactive with isocyanate. The total composition may contain 2.5-9% by wt. of (A) and (B) of bromine. (D) may be a phosphorus -containing diol selected from compounds of formula HOCH2CH(OH)(CH2)nPO(OR2) or polymers obtained by condensing up to 200 molecules of such diols in which n is an integer from 1 to 24 and R is Me, Et, Pr isopropyl, Bu, isobutyl, cyclopentyl, cyclohexyl, phenyl, toluyl or benzyl. The composition may also contain a blowing agent, e.g. water.
