Abstract

The invention relates to a process for the separation of alkane mono-sulphonic acids from liquid mixtures containing one or more alkane sulphonic acids and sulphuric acid or alkane poly-sulphonic acids, e.g. obtained by the sulphoxidation of open chain paraffins or cycloparaffins, which comprises extracting the monosulphonic acid from the mixture with a paraffin having from 5 to 20 carbon atoms per molecule, e.g. cyclohexane or a C10 to C13 n-paraffin fraction or with mixtures of such paraffins. Examples show the separation of the acids obtained by the sulphoxidation of C10 to C13 paraffins.
