Abstract

1,086,681. Manicuring appliances. R. C. H. WEBB. April 15, 1965 [Jan. 17, 1964], No. 2265/64. Heading A5R. An appliance for filing the nails comprises and endless abrasive member, which may be either a belt or a cylindrical member, the abrasive member presenting a resilient abrasive surface to the nails and being arranged to be driven by means, e.g. an electric motor. As shown, a plastic casing 1 contains an electric motor A driving through reduction gearing and a nylon driving pulley G an abrasive belt I, the second nylon pulley H being tensioned by a spring away from the pulley G. An arm K projecting from the casing may be moved to release the tension in the belt for its removal. The casing is in two parts to which is hinged a lid covering the pulleys and the belt. The hinged lid may be arranged so that opening the lid removes the tension in the belt. One or both of the pulleys may be provided with a resilient covering of rubber. In an embodiment wherein a cylindrical member having an abrasive surface is rotated by the motor, a layer of a resilient substance is provided beneath the abrasive.
