Abstract

1,086,633. Mirror stereoscopes. HILGER & WATTS Ltd. July 14, 1964 [July 18, 1963], No. 28453/63. Heading G1F. In a mirror stereoscope the primary mirrors 8a, 8b are both semi-reflectors, and behind each mirror there is provided an elongated support 18 carrying an illuminated graticule in a mounting 24 so that images of the graticules are superimposed upon the respective fields of view from the mirrors 8a, 8b, at least one graticule being movable by means of a micrometer 34 in a plane perpendicular to the axis of the support 18 to cause displacement of the graticule images towards and away from one another. The stereoscope is mounted on tripod legs 4, two of which have adjustable feet 6. A pair of photographs P 1 P 2 is viewed by means of an optical system comprising the mirrors 8a, 8b, mirrors 10a, 10b, a pair of prisms 14 and a binocular eyepiece (not shown). The graticule mounting shown in Fig. 1 is mounted for vertical movement controlled by the micrometer 34, and preferably both graticule mountings are so movable. In use, by adjustment of the feet 6, the image of each photograph is made to appear in the plane of its graticule. In alternative forms of the invention the graticules may move both vertically and horizontally at right angles to the axis of the support 18 and readings may be taken using a reference grid either on the photographs or ruled on a glass sheet covering the photographs. Furthermore, the mounting 24 may be mounted in a gimbal for universal rotation. This enables the slope of a stereoscopic image point to be measured.
