Abstract
1,086,564. Laminates. DEUTSCHE KAPILLPLASTTK G.m.b.H. & CO. Feb. 6, 1964 [March 20, 1963 (2); June 26, 1963], No. 43812/63. Heading B5N. [Also in Divisions E1 and F2] A translucent panel, e.g. a window pane, with heat and/or sound insulating properties, comprises a core layer 1 of hollow, translucent, thermoplastic threads arranged perpendicular to the plane of the panel, layers 2a, 2b of plastics material, preferably of the same material as the threads, and surface layers 3a, 3b of glass-fibre reinforced synthetic resin. The edges of the panels may be provided with profiled inserts 4 and abutting panels may be joined by means of a hardenable sealing cement or a plastics or metal strip 5. In Fig. 3, not shown, the core is formed of two separate layers (4, 5) of the same or different thickness and/or thread diameter with an air-gap therebetween, the air-gap being defined by spacers (6) formed of the hollow threads. The layers (4, 5) may have thicker zones of larger diameter threads, the thicker zones of one layer facing thinner zones of the other layer. In Fig. 4, each layer of the core has thick portions 4 formed of large diameter threads and thin portions formed of small diameter threads, the thick portions of the two layers overlapping to define an air gap. A substance may be admixed with the surface layer exposed to the weather to give it stable light dispersion characteristics, and the layers 2a, 2b may be of fire-resistant resin. The inner or outer surface layer 2a, or 3a may be provided with a vaporized gold layer to reflect heat rays; alternatively, a metal powder or a lead salt of an organic acid may be admixed in the surface layer facing the rays. In making, hollow threads obtained in a melt spinning process and surface-fused are cut perpendicularly to the direction of stretching to form the core. The films 2a, 2b are then applied by means of heated bars or rollers and the layers 3a, 3b are deposited in liquid form and hardened, the said films tending to act as an adhesive.
