Abstract
Alumina is prepared by (1) adding conc. NH3 to pure potassium alum at 65-70 DEG to pH 9-10 and washing the precipitate by settling and decanting the supernatent liquor; (2) dissolving 99.9% pure Al in N-NaOH, neutralizing the solution with N-HCl to phenolphthalein and washing the product as in (1); and (3) by adding a hot solution of aluminium isopropylate in isopropanol to citric acid.ALSO:Mixed complex salts comprising tris(hydroxymethyl)aminomethane, an a -hydroxycarboxylic acid salicylic, p-aminosalicylic or ascorbic acid and Al, Bi, Fe, Cu or B are prepared by reacting tris(hydroxymethyl)aminomethane with an oxide, hydroxide or alkoxide of Al, Bi, Fe, Cu or B with an appropriate acid. The neutral tartarates and malate of tris(hydroxymethyl)-aminomethane and aluminium malate are prepared.
