Abstract

1,086,199. Endless conveyers. HUYCK CORPORATION. Oct. 15, 1964 [Nov. 15, 1963], No. 42187/64. Heading B8A. [Also in Division B5] An endless belt for transporting a moist web of faced corrugated paper through the heating and/or cooling sections of a corrugator combiner machine is formed of material permitting the transmission of moisture therethrough from the web, the material comprising substantially incompressible polymeric sheet material. As shown in Fig. 2, two top belts 49, 50 and a bottom belt 62 serve to transport an assembled corrugated web 20 under hold-down rolls along a tube 45 and facilitate the removal of moisture therefrom as they are made from non-woven thermoplastic polymeric sheet material having a crystalline structure such as polyethylene terephthalate. The belt 62 is fabricated from two sheets 73, 74 ultrasonically sealed together at 99. Each of the belts 49, 50, 62 is laminated from two layers of film interconnected by a polyurethane resin 72, perforations 75 being punched in. Various polymers such as polyamide, polycarbonate, polyolefine, polyvinyl and vinylidene polymers and copolymers may be used to form the belt. To reduce slippage between a belt and its driving roll a layer of colloidal silica or ground silica is applied to the belt surface. Alternatively a scoring 84a in the form of grooves between the perforations 75 may be provided to increase the coefficient of friction. The ends of a belt may be overlapped and joined ultrasonically (Fig. 7, not shown) or various fastenings used (Figs. 8 to 12, not shown). Resistance to slippage of the belts may be improved by providing protuberances in the form of small hemi-spheres (Fig. 14) or diamond shapes between the perforations (Fig. 13, not shown). One or both surfaces of a belt may be modified to add bulk and increase the absorptive qualities. Fig. 16 shows a belt 137 formed from a sheet of polymer film 136 laminated to a woven textile fabric 135, which fabric may comprise natural and/or synthetic fibres. Fig. 17 (not shown) shows a belt 145 comprising a layer 140 of open-cell plastic foam laminated to a sheet of polymer film 142. Fig. 18 (not shown) shows a belt 147 comprising a sheet 148 of polymer film laminated to a bat 150 of natural or synthetic fibres, which bat may be preformed as by needling, felting or chemical bonding &c. or individual fibres deposited electrostatically on the sheet 148. The perforations in the belts may be square (Fig. 19, not shown) or of other shapes. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,016,649.
