Characters selected from a keyboard 2 are transferred from a permanent character store 3 to a working store 4, the contents of which appear visibly on a screen 5, while a separate record is made on a cassette in a text store 6. A visible mark also appears on the screen following the text under control of horizontal and vertical counters 8, 10. After each line, an end-of-line key in a function keyboard 1 is pressed, the last line is transferred to an intermediate store 11. justified by a margin alignment device 12 and returned to the working store.
