Abstract
108,564. Vernaz, A. Sept. 12, 1916. Files.-To prevent choking by filings, the grooves of a file are rounded at the bottom and the cutting edges are broken into short lengths by cross cuts which may be arranged in various ways. The grooves a with rounded bottoms and sharp edges b, Fig. 2, are cut diagonally across the file on a planing-machine or by a milling- cutter, and the edges b are ground slightly by an emery wheel to form facets b<1>. The edges are broken into short lengths by cross-cuts f which may be arranged in zigzag fashion, Figs. 5 and 6, in staggered longitudinal lines, Fig. 7, or in staggered diagonal lines, Fig. 9. The cross cuts shown in Figs. 5 and 9 may be cut by a cold chisel, and those shown in Fig. 7 by a milling-cutter or emery wheel.
