A metal cladding plate for engagement with similar plates comprises on one edge 2 a rearwardly disposed groove 3 between the edge 2 and a flange 4 parallel with the plate and on the other edge a rearwardly stepped tongue 6. for engagement with a groove 3 of another plate, the flange 4 being extended beyond the edge of the plate for attachment to a batten 8. The groove and flange 4 may be formed by bending the edge of the plate or by a separate part welded on.
