[Also in Division E1] An acoustic building block comprises a hollow body shell 10 of concrete, plaster, wood, resin &c., which may be of frusto-conical shape, as shown, or of square, circular or triangular shape, and may have a frusto-conical bore, as shown, or a bore of constant, e.g. circular, cross-section, or one or more stepped bores, the or each of which has at least two baffles, e.g. 22, arranged transversely thereof, one of which is situated at a distance from one end of the bore so as to provide a recess 36 of adjustable volume on the inner face of the block in use. The baffles may be of translucent plastic, or glass, which may be etched, and the baffle inset from the end of the bore may be provided with an annular sliding friction seal 125 (Fig. 5, not shown), so that its position along the bore can be adjusted. Insert tubes 28, 30 may be employed to locate the baffles. The blocks may be employed in walls or domes.
