1,085,265. Fluid pressure brake control; hydrodynamic brakes. H. TEVES, E. A. TEVES and M. TAUSEND, [trading as ALFRED TEVES MASCHINENUND ARMATURENFABRIK K.G. Feb. 17, 1965 [March 26, 1964], No. 6818/65. Headings F2E and F2F. A motor vehicle brake pressure regulator operative with a hydro-dynamic retarder 10 comprises a mass 34 which rotates with the rotor 17 of the retarder and which, upon deceleration of the rotor, causes an axial movement operating a valve which controls the supply of fluid to a wheel brake 9. As shown in a vehicle having a line 1 from a master cylinder (not shown) which actuates, via a booster 3, front wheel brakes 6 and rear wheel brakes 9 the rotor 17 of the hydro-dynamic retarder 10 is coupled to the mass 34 through elements 32, 33 and a ball 16. During a retarding operation the mass 34 tends to run faster than the rotor causing the ball 16 to move up a cam on the mass 34 moving the element 33 and a rod 24 to the left against the action of a spring 25. This enables a spring 21 to move a ball 23 against a seat 22 interrupting fluid supply to a brake line 8 and rear wheel brakes 9. In another embodiment, Fig. 1 (not shown), the rotor 17 acts as the rotating mass and is in this case connected to the shaft 11 through an intermediate member 15, the ball 16 and the cam.
