Abstract
1,084,888. Moulding tubes. CHEMIDUS PLASTICS Ltd. March 24, 1966 [June 10, 1965; Dec. 17, 1965], Nos. 24563/65 and 53609/65. Heading B5A. A recess or groove suitable for receiving a sealing ring, is formed upon a pipe 1, or on a socket 2 thereof, by locating the required region of the pipe or socket within a split recessed mould 3, inserting into such region a mandrel 6 having an annular recess 7 containing an inflatable core 10 surrounded by a resilient ring 12, and finally inflating the core to expand the ring and force the wall of the tube into the recess 5 in the mould. The operative region of the tube or socket may be thickened by a sleeve which is heat shrunk thereon and is preferably heat softened by using a heated fluid to expand the core. An alternative form of core in which the ring 12 is omitted is illustrated in Fig. 3 (not shown).
