Abstract
1,084,286. Vortex reactor; continuous discharge mixing apparatus. SCHAUBERGER BIOTECHNIK A.G. Oct. 20, 1964 [Oct. 23, 1963], No. 42672/64. Headings B1C and B1F. [Also in Division F1] A reactor comprises a chamber of circular cross-section, and in longitudinal section bounded by two symmetrical continuously curved lines and being of egg-, heart-, or pearshape with a narrower and a wider end, one or more tangential inlet conduits nearer to one end than the other and an axial outlet conduit. An axial inlet may also be provided, and the axial inlet or outlet may be inwardly tapered and may have a perforated portion and a nozzle leading thereto. Figs. 3 and 5 (not shown) illustrate the latter features which enable additional materials to be supplied to the emerging substances. It is stated that the reactor may be used to react materials in solid, liquid and gas state, and also to clean air and remove toxic and particulate materials from exhaust gases. The chamber may if desired contain a device producing photochemical radiations and the internal surfaces may be lined with chemicallyactive substances which may have a sterilising effect.
