1,084,212. Photochemical reaction apparatus. TOYO RAYON KABUSHIKI KAISHA. Nov. 19, 1964 [Nov. 19, 1963; Nov. 26, 1963], No. 47229/64. Heading B1X. A reactor 1 for carrying out a photochemical reaction between at least one gaseous and at least one liquid reactant comprises a combination cooler and partition member 2 defining inner and outer chambers, a light source 6 in one of the chambers, means, for example jets 8, bored in distributing pipe 9 for introducing gaseous reactant into this chamber, liquid reactant inlet 19, liquid product outlet 20, and exhaust means 18 for unreacted gas. In operation. the upward flow of gaseous reactant from jets 8 causes circulation of reaction mixture between the chambers. In the embodiment of Fig. 2 (not shown), gaseous reactant is introduced into the inner chamber. There is reference to the use of a cooling coil instead of the combination cooler and partition device 2. The photochemical reaction may be the nitrosation of cycloalkanes.
