A cable running through a housing in a vulcanizing installation is coated with a vulcanizable material and embossed by a stamping wheel rolling over it, the wheel being mounted on a rocking arm whose axis, passes out of the installation and outside the installation supports a lever arm carrying an adjustable weight or acted on by an adjustable spring to produce the desired pressure of the wheel on the cable. The cable is coated by an extruding tool which produces a longitudinal thickening in the path of the wheel.
