Abstract
1,083,709. Frames for bicycles. SOCIETE D'APPAREILS DE CONTROLE ET D'EQUIPEMENT DES MOTEURS S.A.C.E.M. Dec. 21, 1964 [Dec. 31, 1963], No. 51916/64. Headings B7E and B7J. A frame for a bicycle having an auxiliary engine (18), Fig. 1 (not shown), comprises a saddle support 6 secured by a bolt 5 between flanges 1 of a reinforcing sole 1 carrying the crank gear housing 2 and between the arms of a rear fork 14, and a front strut 12 welded to a sleeve 9 journalling the steering parts of the bicycle and secured by bolts 15 and 8 between the arms of the rear fork 14 and ear 1, of the sole 1, wherein the sole 1, the lower portion of the front strut 12, and the front portion of the rear fork define a rigid triangle. The saddle support 6 comprises a thin U-section iron sheet concave to the rear, the sole comprises a thick rectangular iron sheet folded along its periphery to form two flanges 1 1 which support the axis 3 of a pivoting spring-loaded support stand 4, the front strut 12 comprises thin iron sheet bent to form a hollow tube, the opposite edges of the sheet being welded together in a band covered by a rust-proof steel protective trim strip, and the arms of the rear fork are made of angle iron. A plastic feet plate 26 covers the arms of the rear fork 14. An aperture 1 5 is provided in the sole for the passage of electric wires (not shown) to the tail light and of a rear brake cable (7), Fig. 4 (not shown), and its sheath (27). Adjustment of the shoe or drum rear brakes is effected by means of a lever (28) abutted by the sheath (27) and penetrated by the cable (7), and having one arm (28 2 ) bearing against an abutment (32) integral with a flange 1, and another arm (28 1 ) for manual operation, the lever being pivoted on a lock bolt (29) extending through an elongated aperture (30) in the flange 11 into engagement with a threaded aperture in a plate (31) which engages halfway round the abutment (32). With the lock bolt (29) slackened, the lever (28) is rotated about its point of contact with the abutment (32) to adjust the tension on the sheath (27) and hence the movement of the brake lever (33), Fig. 1 (not shown).
