Abstract

A table 6, Fig. 1, for a recumbent individual includes bars 2 along which are slidable bushings 3 supporting a stationary ring 7, Figs. 1 and 2, around which is rotatable a frame comprising a ring 8 attached to shanks 9 on which is rotatably mounted a circular copying base 10 carrying a paper sheet 21, the frame carrying a movable feeler rod extending to the individual and being provided with a recorder. The base 10 and ring 7 are connected by a wire rope 11 passing round a pulley 12 mounted on the shanks 9. On rotating the pulley the base 10 is rotated round the axis of the ring 7 while remaining in the same angular position with respect to its own axis. Attached to the shanks 9 are rails 13 on which is slidable the feeler rod 14 reciprocated by an electrical driving element 15 and carrying at one end the recorder. The other end of the rod carries a sensitive microswitch 16, which on contacting the skin of the individual causes the rod to reverse its movement, and actuates the recorder to make a mark on the sheet. The table is transparent and marked with a scale along its central longitudinal axis, with which the median line of the individual is aligned. Below the table and attached to the ring 7 are a projector 18 and a mirror 19, for shining a hair-line cross of light on to the underside of the body, and a mirror 20 so that the underside of the body can be viewed to see that the cross coincides with a similar mark on the body. As the head is moved from the position of Fig. 2 180 degrees counterclockwise the cross-sectional contour of the upper part of the body is plotted on the sheet 21. The lower half is plotted by inverting the body, or by moving the head through 360 degrees, the table then being in two parts with a gap between.
