Abstract

1,083,550. Packaging trays. KEYES FIBRE CO. Dec. 24, 1964 [Jan. 10, 1964], No. 52426/64. Headings B8C and B8P. Moulded pulp trays, all having the same length and breadth, are supplied in sets consisting of types differing in size and arrangement of pockets, the pockets accommodating various standard grades of citrous fruit and any tray when filled with a particular grade containing approximately the same predetermined weight, irrespective of grade. Each tray may be overwrapped with transparent film which then may be heat shrunk. Packages so formed are stacked nested or superposed, the crates varying only in height. Apparatus (not detailed) for using the sets comprises destackers 12, 22 which select appropriate trays from stacks 14-20 and deposit them on a conveyer 10 for filling with the appropriate grade of fruit from supplies 26-32. Filled trays are overwrapped at 34 and heat shrinkage occurs at 37. At 38 the packages are stacked and packed at 40 into crates 42.
