Abstract

108,351. Roirant, E. Aug. 1, 1916. Blowing.-In a machine for manufacturing "pressed blown " articles only one set of moulds is employed, but these are so arranged that the formation of a parison takes place simultaneously with the setting of the previous parison. The mouth or opening of the finished jar is automatically calipered or reformed while the jar is in the finishing mould. Two plungers 10 are mounted at diametrically opposite points of a carrier 4 which is rotatable on a shaft 3 and may be moved vertically by means of a lever 7. A second carrier 11 also rotatable on the shaft 3 but not movable vertically carries a collar 17 which acts as a guide or centring device for the plunger. Two levers 14 pivoted on opposite sides of the carrier 11 serve to open the neck mould 19, the halves of which slide in grooves on the underside of the carrier. A third carrier 20 which is not rotatable but can be moved vertically on the shaft 3 through toggle levers 27, 29 by means of a treadle 31 supports the parison mould 21 and is connected by links 38, 36 to the finishing mould 32 so that downward movement of the carrier opens the finishing mould. The blowing head 42 carried by a lever 43 is depressed on to the finishing mould by means of a treadle 46 and a valve 48 which controls the blowing air is opened by the short arm of the lever 43 as the head 42 is seated on the mould. In use, after the parison has been formed by the plunger, the parison mould is lowered so as to leave the parison suspended from the neck-mould, the parison being stretched if desired, as described in Specification 108,352. The carrier is then rotated to convey the parison into the open finishing mould 32, and after the mould is closed the neck mould is opened by means of the levers 14 to let the parison fall into the finishing mould. The parison is now blown by lowering the blowing head 42. When the blowing is finished, the head 4 is lowered to form a new parison, and at the same time the second plunger enters the mouth of the finished article which is setting in the finishing mould and removes any distortion which may have occurred during blowing.
