Abstract
1,083,408. Programmed control of lighting. STRAND ELECTRIC & ENGINEERING CO. Ltd., and F. P. BENTHAM, P.R. SHERIDAN. June 24, 1966 [June 28, 1965], No. 27314/65. Heading G3N. In a programmed stage lighting system digitally coded control signals, representative of a desired lighting effect, are recorded on a memory element of storage tracks 5 on a magnetic drum 1 and transferred, to and from, active tracks A, B by a unit 6 routed by a network 7 linked to a master fader 4. The tracks A, B are functionally interchanged by a cross-over switch 7a. The control signals from tracks A, B are fed through amplifiers 9A, 9A to gates 10a, 10b wherein each word of a control signal is separated into a dimmer channel line 11a, 11b. The first word from each active track is fed to a digital indicator 12a, 12b to show which memory element has been written into tracks A, B. The separated word is fed through a digital to analogue converter 13a 13b providing a dimmer level signal to an indicator 3 and a signal to an amplifier 14a, 14b, the gain of which is adjusted by the master fader 4 through a switch 17. The amplifier outputs are fed to a comparator 19, the dimmer level output of which is determined by diodes as the larger of the signals in the tracks A, B, or their sum, when a unit 22 is connected by switch 17C, and is fed to a channel of a dimmer 23. The modification of a control signal stored in a memory element is effected by feeding the dimmer level signals to a scanning switch 24 whose single output is connected to a summing amplifier 26 having a second input from a keyboard 2. A switch 27b in each channel of the keyboard is connected to a unit 29, operative at clock frequency, to search for a depressed key and control the switch 24, through a unit 30, to select the dimmer channel corresponding to the depressed key. The output of amplifier 26 is fed through an analogue digital converter 31 and a read-out circuit 32, which are synchronized by the control 30, to the switching network 7 to modify the record on an active track. Alternatively, the selected channel can be modified by a switch 25 which changesover from the scanning switch 24 to a potentiometer 28.
