Abstract

1,083,226. Friction clutches; springs. FORD. WERKE A.G. July 12, 1965 [July 13, 1964], No. 29461/65. Headings F2C and F2S. In a diaphragm spring friction clutch, particularly for motor vehicles, a presser plate 2 is connected to a clutch cover 3 by circumferentially arranged, clutch return, double-bowed, leaf springs 1 each secured at 4, 5, as by rivets, at its ends to the cover and at its centre to the front or rear of presser plate lugs 11, adjustment of the loading of the diaphragm spring 7 is by insertion of tolerance compensating shim caps 8 between rearward extensions 6 of the presser plate and the outer edge of the diaphragm spring. The caps 8 are shaped to fit the presser plate extensions 6 and have centre lugs (9) engaging depressions (10) of said extensions to prevent rotational displacement of the caps. A diaphragm spring retaining ring (12) comprises an outer flange (18) providing a rear spring pivot radially outside holes (17) in the diaphragm spring. Radially inwardlyextending diaphragm spring fingers (16) may have obtuse angled cross-sections, bent-up sides or as shown, slightly indented beads (15). The arrangement of the leaf spring connection assists presser plate and leaf spring cooling. The caps may be pressed on to the presser plate extensions, without dismantling the clutch, by slightly raising the presser plate.
