Abstract

1,082,930. Universal joints. CAM GEARS Ltd. Feb. 22, 1966 [June 22, 1965], No. 26438/65. Heading F2U. Each trunnion bearing 6 for the cross-pins 5 of a Hooke's joint is supported in its corresponding fork-end bore 10 by a bearing shell 11 which fits in the bore and is provided with radially extending securing means at the inner end of the bore to prevent relative centrifugal movement of the shell. In Figs. 1 and 6 (not shown), a plain bearing 6 or, bush (20), carrying a roller bearing (18) is externally slotted at 8 to allow passage of crimped tongues 14, (15), or (16), Figs. 3, 4 or 5 (not shown), on the shell 11 when assembled on the bearing, the tongues 14 snapping out to locate the shell on the inner fork end face. In Fig. 8 (not shown), each bearing shell is radially slotted at several points (43) through which a spring ring (44) projects at (44A) to locate the shell. In Fig. 7 (not shown), each bearing shell (33 or 35) is formed with an inner flange (33A) and is assembled with a plain bearing 34 in the fork-ends, plain and waisted trunnion crosspins (32, 31) then being assembled through the bearings to a block (30), one of each pair of shells (35) being open-ended for this assembly of the cross-pins after which a retaining disc (36) is fitted and retained by peening over the outer end of the shell (35).
