Abstract

1,082,867. Door latches. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. Aug. 26, 1965 [Oct. 30, 1964], No. 366664/65. Heading E2A. A door latch mechanism comprises a latch arrangement adopted to engage a striker and spring biassed towards an unlatching position, a pivoted detent spring biassed to hold the latch arrangement in a latching position, the pivoted detent being rotatable by a link which in turn is rotatable by a bell crank lever which is rotatable by either a first or a second actuating member, the link being movable by a single locking element from a first to a second position and when the link is rotated when in the second position it does not release the detent. The latch comprises two cooperating pivoted latch jaws 15 spring biassed to unlatching position and retained in latching position with a striking bolt of elliptical cross section by two meshing toothed plates 21, 22 pivoting on the same pivots as the latches. Box plate 21 is spring biassed to latch disengaging position in an anti-clockwise direction. The latches are held engaged by the spring urged detent 34 a projection 39 on which engages a tooth 32 on the plate 22. The detent is released by pressing a push button on an outer handle which engages one arm 49 of a bell crank lever 45 connected to the link 46 which has a flange 58 which engages a projection 57 on the detent. An inside handle pivots, a link engaging the other arm 48 of the bell crank lever also to release the detent. The link 46 is moved downwardly and rendered inoperative to release the detent by pressing a knob inside the door which operates a linkage to raise one arm 74 of a pivoted lever 68 connected to the link 46.
