Abstract

[Also in Divisions B6 and B8] A garland pack comprises an elongated strip of material e.g. metal say aluminium or metallized foil which is formed into a roll, a support member to which the outer end of the roll is attached, and a box or container enclosing the support-cum-roll having one end operable or provided with a tear-away portion thereby to provide access to the inner end of the roll the roll being confined between the support member and one side of the box or container. The inner end of the roll may be secured to a tab piece which may be constituted by a tear-away portion of an end of the box. In Fig. 2 (not shown) a strip 10 of aluminium foil is in roll form and mounted on a web 17 of a support member 15 which consists of a sheet of cardboard folded into a shallow channel section with side flanges 16 adapted to be slidably engaged within a cardboard box 13. The inner end 10a of the roll has secured adhesively thereto a tab piece 20 constituted by a locally weakened part of the operable flap 14 of the box 13, and the outer end 10b is attached to web 17. Tearing away of the tab may effect opening of the flap 14, or the aperture left by the tab may be of such size as to permit controlled extraction from the box 13 without the flap being opened. The strip 10 is formed along its length with a multiplicity of closely spaced transverse slits 11 which extend to each edge of the strip from a narrow unslitted centre part 12 and becomes twisted about its longitudinal axis when drawn from the box. Alternatively, the strip may have transverse slits extending substantially the full width of the strip with the exception of a narrow margin at each side, and then assumes a tubular form embodying a helical twist when extended. The side of the box against which the garland roll is pressed may be formed with apertures so that the exposed roll portion forms part of the box's ornamentation.
