Abstract
A copying paper contains as fillers an electron-acceptor material and a compound of cobalt, manganese or lead. The electron-acceptor can develop colour by absorbing a colourless electron-donor, and may be a clay, e.g. attapulgite, or terra alba, finely divided silicic acid, kaolin, pyrophillite, halloysite, zeolite or bentonite. The paper may be made by: (1) precipitating a compound of cobalt, manganese or lead in an aqueous suspension containing pulp and clay; (2) precipitating the compound in a slurry of pulp and then adding clay; (3) precipitating the compound in a slurry of clay and then adding the pulp; or (4) mixing pulp, clay and a water-insoluble compound of cobalt, manganese or lead simultaneously; in any case the mixed slurry is then made into paper. The compound of cobalt, manganese or lead may be a drier for printing ink, may be a colloidal borate, phosphate, silicate, carbonate, sulphate, chromate, resinate or carboxylate, and may be prepared by double decomposition. Lead compounds, if used may be bivalent or quadrivalent.
