Abstract
1,081,966. Telegraphy. CREED & Co. Ltd. May 3, 1966, No. 19418/66. Heading H4P. A buffering arrangement in a telegraph system in which the rate of the received characters may vary comprises a time base TB1, started by each received Start bit, which feeds the serial data to a first store S1. The fifth stage of the time base energizes a second time base TB2 which generates a signal of duration greater than the minimum interval between successive Start bits but less than the nominal interval between such bits. This signal, while it lasts, prevents TB2 from responding to any further pulse from TB1, and also, after differentiation, resets a second store S2 and then reads the data in S1 to S2. Store S2 is read out by clock pulses from TB3, which has a repetition rate greater than or equal to the nominal character rate. As a result, a character is stored in S1 until S2 is reset, the preceding character having been read from S2 prior to the resetting to a third store S3, from which it is passed to a printer or perforator.
