Moulding material is heated as it passes through passages 30 in a heat exchange member 11 (see Fig. 4, not shown) having cone-shaped ends 31, 32 which co-operate with similarly shaped surfaces 23, 28 to form inlet and outlet passages 34, 35 respectively. Angle B is greater than angle A, angle D greater than angle C, and angle A greater than angle C. The heat exchanger is heated by units 40 which may be of the steam-heated or electrical resistance or induction type.
