[Also in Group XIII] A system in which a fluid such as water at super-atmospheric pressure, or a gas or a fluidized particulate material is used to regulate the temperature of a mould used in the making of articles of thermo-setting or thermo-plastic material, comprises a heat exchanger associated with the mould and a fluid in which a temperature variation as between one part of the fluid and another, is maintained, said fluid having a hot portion separated from a cold portion by an intermediate portion in which there is a temperature gradient from hot to cold, maintained by supplying heat to the hot fluid portion and withdrawing heat from the cold fluid portion. Fig. 1 shows such a system in which the fluid supplying heat to or withdrawing heat from the mould 5 moves in a circuit comprising conduits 1, 7 and one or other of the parallel-connected conduits 2, 3, 4. Valves 10, 11, 12, 15, 16, 18, 19 are so actuated either mechanically (as shown) hydraulically or electrically, that before passing to the mould 5 the hot fluid portion is directed through conduit 2 wherein it is heated in heat exchanger 8 and the cold fluid portion is directed through conduit 4 wherein it is cooled in heat exchanger 13. A further arrangement is described, Fig. 3 (not shown), in which the fluid is shunted back and forth through the mould heat exchanger. Figs. 5 and 6 show the lower section of a two-part mould. The system fluid, in which the temperature variation is maintained, is circulated through the channel 43 in a part 42. The mould shown may be additionally heated by fluid circulated through a channel 45. The part 42 carries the moulding plate 46 of the mould.
