Abstract

1,080,841. Gas analysis manometers. INTERNATIONAL GAS DETECTORS Ltd. April 22, 1964 [Jan.22, 1963], No. 2632/63. Headings G1B and G1L. Apparatus for the determination of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere comprises a pair of porous vessels and a manometer, the interior of one vessel being connected to one side of the manometer and the interior of the other vessel to the other side of the manometer, each vessel being provided with a cavity in its base to receive a moisture containing unit 5, each vessel also containing a carton 13, which in one vessel is of a carbon dioxide absorbent, e.g. soda-lime, and in the other is of cotton wool or other absorbent material whose hygroscopic properties have been increased by the deposition of or by impregnation with calcium chloride. The apparatus is intended to allow for humidity of the atmosphere when carrying out a carbon dioxide content determination. Each vessel comprises porous ceramic rings 1 and non-porous rings 2 clamped between top and bottom plates 3, 4. The moisture containing units 5 each comprise a reticulated container of moistened cotton wool, and these are mounted on resilient pads 21. The cartons 13 are carried in frames 11, which may if desired also carry the units 5, and the vessels are closed by caps 6. A pipe 18 connects the vessel containing the soda-lime with a chamber 14 Fig. 1 and a pipe 19 connects the other vessel with a chamber 15. The manometer comprises the chambers 14, 15 connected by a tube 16, a vertical portion of which is arranged adjacent a scale 17. A screw threaded member 20 is provided for bringing the liquid level in the tube 16 to zero on the scale 17. Small bore extensions of the tubes 18, 19 extend into the chambers 14, 15 to render the manometer non- spillable.
