Abstract
1,080,609. Billet piercing. SCHLOEMANN A.G. Dec. 8, 1965 [Dec. 16, 1964], No. 52000/65. Heading B3H. A billet piercing press comprises an ejector head 22 having a bore 28 corresponding to a punch core 26, which is sheared from the end of the pierced billet 13. The billet is located in a punching pot 12 and pierced by lowering a mandrel 19 which is surrounded by an upsetting ram 20. During the piercing operation the bore 28 is filled by a filling piece 23 which is supported on a surface 25 of a crossbeam 1 of the press. When the billet has been pierced the punch core 26 is removed by applying fluid pressure to a cylinder 6 which acts against a fixed piston 4 to raise a thrust rod 7 and the ejector head 22. The ejector head acts against the stationary mandrel 19 to shear off the punch core which falls into a chamber in the thrust rod from which it may be removed laterally. The mandrel 19 is then raised and the billet ejected by a further movement of the ejector head. The shearing of the punch core may alternatively be carried out by supplying fluid pressure to cylinders 18, which raise the punching pot 12 through rods 16. This raises a bearing ring 21 and hence the ejector head 22 to shear the punch core. The mandrel is then raised and the billet ejected from the punching pot by supplying fluid pressure to the cylinder 6. After ejection of the billet the cylinder 6 is retracted to its original position by supplying fluid pressure to a bore 11 in the stationary piston 4, this causing downward movement of a piston 10 which draws down the cylinder 6.
