Abstract

A dentifrice composition comprises manganous fluoride and an excipient. Preferably stannous fluoride and sodium fluoride are also present, and the excipient is free from alkaline earth metal and other metal compounds capable of reacting with the said fluorides to give fluorides having a water solubility below 1.25 gms./litre at 25 DEG C. (e.g. Fe, Ni, or Mg); the effect of such interfering compounds as are present may be mitigated by the inclusion of precipitating agents therefor, such as sodium hexametaphosphate and disodium phosphate. Excipients may be white silica, silica gel, TiO2, sodium alginate, sulphonated lauryl alcohol, and glycerine, the composition having a pH of 7.5-9.0.
