Abstract

1,079,929. Smoke detectors. RADIOVISER PARENT Ltd., and G.A.G. IVE. Nov. 12, 1965 [Nov. 13, 1964], No. 46346/64. Heading G1A. A smoke detector probe comprises a tubular casing with a lamp housing and a detector chamber mounted at either end, the tube containing an optical system arranged to focus a narrow pencil of light from the source to a point in the detector chamber equidistant from a number of photo-cells. Normally, no light reaches the cells (13), Fig. 2 (not shown), but when smoke is present inside the casing, having passed through holes provided in the side, light is scattered into the cells, which are activated and can actuate an alarm (audible, telephone warning to control centre, &c). The optical system comprises collimating lenses (9), a very small aperture (10) and a focusing lens (12) and the photo-cells may number four, connected in parallel and equispaced round the inside wall of the tubular chamber (14). Means for manually or regularly and automatically testing the system (a light-scattering flag member introduced into the light path) may be provided, together with a source failure warning system. A filter to stop dust, but allowing smoke to enter the casing, may be provided.
