Abstract

1,079,170. Metal pouring apparatus. METAL PUMPING SERVICES Inc. Sept. 10, 1965, No. 38730/65. Heading B3F. Apparatus for delivering accurately metered amounts of a fluid such as molten metal from a reservoir 12 into the shot well of a diecasting machine, comprises a constant speed pump 13, operated through a time control circuit, to supply molten metal through a conduit 27 into the shot well 34. The closing of the contact 39 actuates a first timer 41 by closing the switch 42, which in turn actuates the solenoid valve 36 to start the pump motor 30. Molten metal is thus pumped through the conduit 27 and as it is discharged from the spout 33 contacts a detecting probe 43 thereby completing the circuit to actuate the second timer 46. The pump is operated until the timing phase of the second timer 46 expires whereat, the switch 50 is opened to stop the pump. In this arrangement only the quantity of molten metal discharged into the shot well is determined by the timer, the supply from the pump and the amount residual in the conduit 27 being constant. The timing phase of the first timer is slightly longer than that of the second timer so that in the event of failure of the latter the first timer would effect the stopping of the pump.
