Abstract
Compounds of the formula <FORM:1078975/C2/1> wherein R represents a hydrogen atom or a alkoxy radical with not more than 5 carbon atoms, R1 and R2 are the same or different and represent alkoxy radicals with up to 5 carbon atoms, and Z is either the radical: <FORM:1078975/C2/2> wherein R3 is in the 2- or 4-position and represents a hydrogen atom, a chlorine atom or an alkoxy radical with up to 5 carbon atoms, or the radical: <FORM:1078975/C2/3> wherein R, R1 and R2 have the above significanc and non-toxic acid addition salts thereof. These compounds are obtained by reacting an a -chloro-acetophenone of the formula <FORM:1078975/C2/4> with an N-aryl-piperazine of the formula <FORM:1078975/C2/5> wherein R, R1, R2 and Z have the above significance, under anhydrous conditions in a suitable solvent, e.g. acetone. Pharmaceutical compositions useful as monamine oxidase inhibitors, tranquillizers, anti-serotonin agents, anti-tussives and in the treatment of urinary lithiasis contain as the active ingredient one or more of the compounds of the first general formula above or non-toxic acid addition salts thereof and a pharmaceutical carrier in a form suitable for injection or oral administration. The preparation of N-(phenyl)-, N-(41-chlorophenyl)- and N-(p-methoxyphenyl)-substituted piperazino - 2,4 - dimethoxyacetophenone, N - (phenyl) -, N - (21 - chlorophenyl) -, N - (41 - chlorophenyl)- an N-(p-methoxyphenyl)-substituted piperazino - 2,4,6 - trimethoxyacetophenone, N,N1 - bis - (2,4 - dimethoxyacetophenone) - piperazine and N,N1 - bis - (2,4,6 - trimethoxyacetophenone) - piperazine is described.
