Abstract

A stranding machine comprises a plurality of tube lengths supported in co-axial alignment by encircling bearings, at least one supply cradle being housed in each tube length, drive means for each tube length adapted for synchronous operation to rotate all the tube lengths in synchronism, and brake means-e.g. disc brakes-for each drive means. There may be a single electric motor, or synchronised electric motors. Each tube length may have at its front end a cylindrical extension supported on bearings surrounding a tubular spigot extending backwards from the next tube length. Alternatively a bobbin cradle may be provided between adjacent tube lengths. The tube lengths may be rotated in the same or opposite directions.
