Abstract

1,078,254. Fishing rods. HARDY BROS. (ALNWICK) Ltd. April 6, 1966 [April 6, 1965], No. 14525/65. Heading A1A. [Also in Division F2] A hollow steel or fibre-glass fishing rod having continuous external and internal tapers comprises at least first and second hollow rod parts 1 and 2 joined at abutting end portions 1a and 2a by an aluminium insert member 3 having a continuous external taper complementary to the internal taper across said abutting end portions, said insert member being passed through the first rod part and forced into wedging engagement with the end portion 1a so as to provide a projecting spigot part 3a which is frictionally received in the end portion 2a of the second rod part. The insert member is provided with a cylindrical cork-plugged bush 4 of nylon or other resilient material having a diameter equal to the narrower-insert member end whereby the bush is compressed on its insertion into the second rod part to aid the frictional fit between the insert member and said rod part. The insert member may be additionally secured in the first rod part with adhesive. Bindings 6 and 8 prevent splitting of the rod end portions during assembly of the rod.
