Abstract

1,078,245. Thermal cut-outs. UNITED-CARR Inc. April 4, 1966 [April 7, 1965], No. 14750/66. Heading H2B. A thermal cut-out comprises a pellet 20 of fusible metal, e.g. indium; a fixed contact 48; a movable contact 22 having an enlarged head 24 engaging with the pellet 20; a fixed tubular baffle 30 in which the movable contact 22 slides; and a movable tubular baffle 56 sliding over the fixed baffle 30 and having an enlarged head 58 biasad by a coil spring 60 against the head 24 of the movable contact so as to move the latter to separate the contacts 22, 48 when pellet 20 melts due to excessive ambient temperature. The plug and socket contacts are tightly surrounded by a rubber bushing 40 which has a flange 46 serving to seal the casing 10 of the cut-out.
