Abstract
A decorated enamel coating is produced by applying a layer of enamel to the surface of an article, contacting the layer with finely-divided metal particles, and firing to soften the enamel so that the particles sink into and become embedded in the softened enamel. The metal particles may be carried on a synthetic plastics foil which is laid on the enamel surface and which vaporizes during firing. The metal particles may be a noble metal, e.g. gold, and may be disposed so that on embedding they conduct electricity. The enamel may be transparent or translucent. The article may be metallic.
