Abstract
107,717. Peck, W. Nov. 24, 1916. Stocks; sighting - accessories; breech actions, sliding breech-block; firing appliances; machine rests. -Consists of an auxiliary stock, for use in firing from. cover, combined with a periscopic sight and means for actuating the breech-bolt and the trigger. The auxiliary stock comprises a stock proper K<1> secured at the front to the forestock K<2> of the rifle, an upright V hinged thereto and fitting over the butt stock of the rifle, and two tie-rods W. The bolt is actuated by a lever L pivoted at the end of an arm L<1> pivoted to the upright V and at the top connected to the bolt handle by a ball- and-socket joint. In a modification, Fig. 5, the lever L is made in two parts hinged together at l and pivoted respectively to arms Q, L<1>. The trigger T is operated by an auxiilary trigger T<1> connected thereto by links and a bell-crank lever J. The periscopic sight P may be of the kind described in Specification 3549/15, [Class 97 (i), Optical systems &c.]. It passes through a plate p at the top of the upright V, and at the bottom is adjusted for elevation by a sector plate Y. Lateral adjustment is effected by moving a vertical cross-wire in the field of the periscope by means of a knurled head p<3>. Apertures c, c' are formed in the periscope tube for the purpose of viewing the sights directly when fitting and adjusting the periscope. The gun may be supported by a stand, Fig. 2, a ball C on the auxiliary stock being placed in asocket C<1> on the stand.
