[Also in Division Fl] Message apparatus comprises an applicator having a surface formed with depressions and protruberances, conduits in the applicator connecting the depressions to a source of fluctuating pressure so that skin 46 treated with the applicator is repeatedly drawn into the depressions. As shown, the surface is formed with corrugations and subsiduary conduits 51 connect the depressions to a main conduit 50 leading to a source of fluctuating air pressure. In an alternative embodiment, Figure 4 (not shown), the pressure source, instantaneously provides a positive pressure to a first depression while the adjacent depression is subject to a negative pressure through a second system of conduits. In further embodiments the applicator is provided with a vibrator mechanism (Figure 9, not shown), electrodes to which pulsed currents are provided in syncronism with the pressure (Figure 8, not shown), or with a flexible rubber diaphragm over the operative surface so that a liquid may be used as the pressure medium (Figure 7, not shown). Suitable pumps to provide the fluctuating pressure source for one or more applicators comprise a piston moving in a cylinder and driven by an electric motor (Figure 1, not shown), or a piston moved in a cylinder by a solenoid coil (Figure 6, not shown).
