Electro-magnets.-A resistance for compensating for change in reluctance in an electro-magnet b due to movement of an armature c is constructed so as to have substantially the same resistance temperature coefficient as the magnetizing-coils. The resistance may be of the same material as the coils ; preferably, however, it consists of two or more sections a<1>, a<2> in series or parallel, one at least having a higher coefficient than the coils; for instance, one may be of nickel and the other of constantan. The resistance is preferably placed on or below the electro-magnet winding b, or partly above and partly below, and is screened from disturbing sources of heat.
