Abstract
1,076,370. Automatic circuit breakers. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Dec.28, 1965 [Jan. 25, 1965], No. 55009/65. Heading H2B. A tripping assembly for an overload circuit breaker includes a toggle linkage 31, 33 normally held overcentre by a latch 37 against a spring bias 36 and collapsed by the spring 36, upon release of latch 37 by a current responsive bi-metal 40 acting on a common trip bar 38 upon excessive current flow, to release a secondary roller latch 29 and the main circuit breaker latch 27 to open contacts (13-16) (Fig. 1, not shown). The toggle linkage 31, 33 is reset when a coupling bar 19 of the contact assembly 18 strikes an extension of link 31 during the opening of the contacts. The contacts are reclosed through a conventional snap acting tension spring and toggle linkage (25) (Fig. 1, not shown) after first moving an operating handle (24) further in the off direction to reengage primary latch 27 with a pivoted arm 26. The main contacts (15, 16) of which there may be several pairs are associated with arcing contacts (13, 14).
