Abstract
1,076,114. Fluid-pressure servomotor systems. DRESSER INDUSTRIES Inc. Sept. 28, 1964 [Nov. 1, 1963], No. 39494/64. Heading G3P. A temperature-pressure transducer comprises a temperature sensitive element in the form of . a bi-metallic coil spring (26) Fig. 2 (not shown) having one end fixed to the base of a tube (22) and the other end connected to a spindle (32) on which is adjustably mounted a member 36 having a first part 52 in the form of a flapper for cooperating with a nozzle 50, and a second part 54 providing a stop. The nozzle is mounted in a manifold 38 adjustable along its length and having an inlet 40, a restriction 44 and an outlet 48, e.g. to a pressure gauge of the Bourdon tube type. In operation, a temperature change exerts a torque on member 36 which moves it relative to the nozzle until the said torque is balanced by the pressure exerted on the flapper by the jet issuing from the nozzle. A linear relationship between temperature and pressure is achieved by using a spring of a rate such that the unrestrained deflection thereof is very large as compared with the deflection permitted by the flapper. In a modification, a helically wound torsion spring is interposed between the temperature sensitive element and the spindle. An adjustment to permit setting of the transducer to provide a specific output pressure at a given temperature is provided, coarse adjustment being by rotating the member 36 relative to its spindle and fine adjustment by rotating a member 70 eccentrically mounted and engaging a slot 72 in a housing 10 to which the manifold is attached.
