Abstract

1,076,061. Electric lamps with cut-outs. BRITISH LIGHTING INDUSTRIES Ltd. May 25, 1966 [May 28, 1965], No. 22837/65. Heading H1F. [Also in Division H2] A projection lamp is provided with a surgelimiting resistance in series with the filament and a thermally operated switch which short-circuits the resistance when the temperature of the main filament reaches a certain value. The lamp comprises an envelope 10 with a base cap in which are contact pins 12 .. 15, the pins 12, 14 carrying supports 16, 17 for the filament. An auxiliary filament 21 forming the surge limiting resistance is connected between pins 14 and 15 and a fuse 23 between pins 15 and 13. The support 17 carries a bimetallic strip 24 which bends under the heat of the lamp to engage the pin 15 and shortcircuit the filament 21. In a modification, the surge limiting resistance is external to the lamp, being connected to the pin 14. The main filament is connected between the pins 12 and 14 and the fuse between the pins 12 and 13. One side of the supply is connected to the pin 15 and also to the pin 14 via the surge limiting resistance 26. A reflector may be mounted inside the lamp envelope on a glass bar supported between the filament supports 16, 17.
