Abstract

1,075,891. Laminates. METAL CONTAINERS Ltd. Jan. 26, 1965 [Jan. 28, 1964], No. 3631/64. Heading B5N. Laminated material suitable for making waterproof but ventilated bags comprises two or more superposed high polymer films 5, 6, e.g. of high density polythene or polypropylene, having perforations 8, 9 arranged in staggered relation, the films being secured together, as by welding or adhesive, in areas between the perforations such that communicating passages are left between perforations in adjacent layers. The perforations may be in rows, but staggered in the two layers, and the layers may be secured together between the rows. Alternatively the perforations may be in communicating pairs, the layers being adhered in a pattern surrounding the pairs. Any shape of perforation may be provided, circular and elongated perforations being shown. A third layer 7, the perforations 10 in which may or may not register with those in layer 5. To improve tear resistance the films may be unidirectionally oriented, the orientation direction being different in adjacent films.
