Abstract
A core or mould material comprises sand, a heat-hardenable synthetic resin binder, an accelerator and an inhibitor of the hardening of the binder, the accelerator and inhibitor being simultaneously added to the sand-resin mix. The resin may be urea formaldehyde resins, urea formaldehyde resins modified by furfuryl alcohol, phenolic resins, or phenolic resins modified by furfuryl alcohol. The accelerator may be a mixture of urea or ammonium chloride, optionally with a small amount of hydrochloric acid, ammonium chloride-phenol mixture comprising an organic acid (chlorinated amino acid or amino-benzoic acid) and urea or phenol, amino acid, phosphoric acid. The inhibitor may be the mono-, di- or trialkylol (C1-C6) amines, more particularly the ethanolamines and particular examples include monodi- and tri-ethanolamine.
