Abstract

la - Acetyl mitomycin C, la-sulphonyl mitomycin C and la-phthaloylglutamyl mitomycin C are prepared by reacting mitomycin C with the corresponding acyl chloride or acid anhydride. la-Phthaloylglutamyl mitomycin C has the formula <FORM:1075547/C2/1> la - sulphonylmitomycin C has the formula <FORM:1075547/C2/2> wherein R is alkyl such as methyl or aryl. la-p-toluene sulphonyl mitomycin C is prepared in a similar manner. 1-Hydroxy-2,7-diaminomitosene of formula <FORM:1075547/C2/3> is prepared by reacting mitomycin C with an inorganic or organic acid. The compounds have antibacterial activity and are less toxic than mitomycin C.
