[Also in Divisions D1 and F2] A glass fibre web from a roll 9 is expanded on a table 12 and coated with a plastics foam mixture, which may include polyurethane or polypropylene, and passes around a roller 29 on to a table 10 which permits the foam mixture to expand upwardly through the fibres to the web surface; the web, which may then be covered on its upper and lower surfaces with waxed paper, polyethylene &c., is conveyed through a troughshaped guide 51, Fig. 3, not shown, which shapes the web during the setting of the plastics foam to form flat panels. In the apparatus of Fig. 2, not shown, a second glass fibre web 14<SP>1</SP> from a second roll 9<SP>1</SP>, and which may have been treated with urea resins, is fed into contact with the foam coated surface of the first web as the latter passes under the upper table. A web of paper &c. 9<SP>11</SP> may be applied to the first web on its surface opposite the foam coated one. Instead of forming flat panels in the guide 51, the so treated web is fed from the guide and wrapped helically around an axially moving core to thereby form a pipe. The core may be of triangular, square, circular or hexagonal shape in cross-section and collapsible, Figs. 6-9, not shown, and for this purpose comprises hinged elements which pivot inwardly. The treated web, alternatively, may be passed through a circular die to form a rod, or through a cored die to provide a pipe. By dividing the pipes axially, floor elements of channel shape are provided, or hollow members for other purposes are formed.
