Abstract

<PICT:1073761/C4-C5/1> A synergistic ternary detergent mixture consisting by weight, of (a) from 12-60% of a detergent (I) which is a mixture of from 30-70% of component A, from 20-70% of component B and from 2-15% of component C, wherein component A is a mixture of double-bond positional isomers of water-soluble salts of alkene-1 sulphonic acids containing from 12-16 carbon atoms, said mixture of positional isomers including from 10-25% of alpha-beta unsaturated isomer, from 30-70% of beta-gamma unsaturated isomer, from 5-25% of gamma-delta unsaturated isomer and from 5-10% of delta-epsilon unsaturated isomer, component B is a mixture of water-soluble salts of bifunctionally substituted sulphur-containing aliphatic compounds containing 12-16 carbon atoms, the functional units being hydroxyl and sulphonate radicals with the sulphonate radical always being on the terminal carbon atom and the hydroxyl radical being attached to a carbon atom separated by at least one carbon atom from the terminal carbon atom, and component C is a mixture of 30-95% of water-soluble salts of alkene disulphonates containing 12-16 carbon atoms and from 5-70% of water-soluble salts of hydroxy disulphonates containing from 12-16 carbon atoms, said alkene disulphonates containing one sulphonate group attached to a terminal carbon atom and the second sulphonate group attached to an internal carbon atom separated by not more than five carbon atoms from said terminal carbon atom, the alkene double bond being distributed in a position between the terminal carbon atom and the seventh carbon atom, said hydroxy disulphonates being saturated aliphatic compounds having one sulphonate radical attached to a terminal carbon atom, the second sulphonate group attached to an internal carbon atom separated by not more than five carbon atoms from the said terminal carbon atom, and the hydroxyl group attached to a carbon atom which is separated by not more than three carbon atoms from the site of attachment of the said second sulphonate group; (b) from 6-50% of detergent (II) which is an alkali-metal salt of a sulphuric acid ester of an alkyl ethyoxylate containing from 10-14 carbon atoms in the alkyl radical and 1-5 moles of ethylene oxide; and (c) from 15-74% of detergent (III) which is a zwitterionic quaternary ammonium compound having the formula <FORM:1073761/C4-C5/1> wherein R1 is an lakyl radical containing from 12-14 carbon atoms, R2 and R3 are each methyl, ethyl or hydroxyethyl, R4 is an alkylene radical having from 1-3 carbon atoms and Z is hydrogen or hydroxyl. The compositions of the present invention may be used with inorganic and organic alkaline builder salts and sequestering agents, many of which are specified. Hydrotropes such as alkali-metal salts of xylene and toluene sulphonic acids, solubilizing agents such as the lower aliphatic alcohols, anti-tarnishing agents, perfumes, pigments, and water hardness salts such as the alkaline earth sulphate and chlorides may also be added.
